Bio: Michael Smith

Since 1994, Michael V. Smith has been the President and CEO of Earth Systems, Inc., an engineering firm specializing in geotechnical, geological, environmental and construction-related issues. Earth Systems, headquartered in San Luis Obispo, is the holding company of five operating companies with 14 offices throughout California and 150-plus employees.

Mike is a Professional Geologist and Certified Engineering Geologist with expertise in geologic evaluations of potential faults, landslides, seismicity, and liquefaction hazards. His project experience extends to hospitals, airports, educational facilities, aerospace facilities, solid and liquid waste disposal sites, canals, earth fill dams, aggregate quarries, and residential subdivisions. Earth Systems has done a significant amount of work locally, including testing for the Performing Arts Center before and during construction, and more recently was involved with the new Cal Poly Housing facilities.

Mike has lived in Cayucos since 2000, is an active member of the Rotary de Tolosa and spends a lot of time at the Performing Arts Center, enjoying everything from country music performances to touring symphonies.
